St Piers School had a visit from six teachers from St Georges College-Hartman House in Zimbabwe.
The teachers were welcomed by Peace Furusa who took them to their places of residence. They had a full programme, visiting the Medical Centre where they were taken round by Andy, one of the nurses, explaining about the multi-disciplinary approaches we use. They then went to observe some lessons in the school. They all agreed they were an eye opener as they observed some different teaching didactics being used.
The delegation also had a talk from Carol Jones on Autism and Raj Singh Gill on how we deal with different challenges we get from students. They had a lovely time in Creative Arts where they learnt about Intensive Interaction. They attended a session on Safe Support from Alex which was very fruitful. Lauren, the literacy coordinator, shared ideas on the reading schemes and tests which they hope to try in their school.
One of the delegates then gave a presentation on the Zimbabwean curriculum. They also visited College and had a look around and visited one of the Jubilee Houses where Andrew Lewis, the Manager, was very welcoming, explaining what they do and how they look after and occupy the students after school and at weekends. The team then attended the sixth form gathering and finished the day by attending the whole school assembly on Friday where they observed students celebrating their achievements.
