The Howe Outdoor Gym and Games Area, was officially opened by Lady Howe in September, in honour of Lord Howe who was the Life President of Young Epilepsy, and dedicated over 40 years to the charity.
Lord Howe served as a Life President for over three decades, acting as an influential and dedicated figurehead of the charity.
The outdoor gym includes a treadmill, shoulder press, chest press, leg press, cross trainer, recumbent bike, hand bike, spinning bike as well as a mini range of equipment suitable for ages 4 – 11. Some pieces of equipment will generate electricity whilst in use which will power lights and a mobile phone charging unit.
The multi-use games area provides a space for users to play various sports including football, tennis and basketball. The facility, which was majority funded by Sport England as part of the Inspired Facilities fund, is suitable for users aged four and above and will be open to St Piers’ students, Young Epilepsy staff and community partners.
Carol Long, Chief Executive at Young Epilepsy, said:
We are so pleased to celebrate the opening of Howe Outdoor Gym and Games Area in memory of Lord Howe. With this facility we will remember and honour Lord Howe’s enormous contribution towards the charity and the young lives living with epilepsy we support.
Our students will particularly benefit from this wonderful addition to our campus that will not only be a great space for them to keep active, it will also have a profound effect on emotional and mental wellbeing.
